Year 6 Learning at Home
It is a fantastic idea to continue your journey of learning at home. This could take the form of simply talking with friends or family and discussing the things that you are learning about in School. It could however be more structured and you may want to develop certain skills or your understanding and knowledge in a certain subject area.
Have fun and remember to make your learning fun!
Look at our weekly update to see this week’s homework!
Formal/Compulsory homework is set weekly, usually on a Friday and children are expected to spend about an hour attempting to complete the homework. The children are expected to spend their time working on the homework as best they can and it is not a requirement that they work until the task is finished but that they spend the allotted time on the set homework. The homework will need to be attempted and handed in by the Wednesday of the following week.
Most of this formal homework is to be completed in for our homework books and school folders. The homework is often building upon learning that has taken place during the week; consolidating or extending, or possibly may include some research or preparation tasks.
Optional homework is recommended to take place as often as possible. This optional homework includes reading (preferably a novel but reading of any source is great), practice recalling the multiplication tables and practice spelling high-frequency words. At times there may be maths puzzles or little problems set for fun. These are optional and will not be marked officially. They will however benefit your child's learning.
Children will need access to the following resources for certain pieces of homework:
- Colouring pencils
- Handwriting pen
- A calculator
