Reminder: PE is every Tuesday and Thursday
Week ending 15th March 2019:
What a blustery and wet week! We have enjoyed immersing ourselves in learning about The Great Fire of London and creating wonderful pieces of art to represent events in 1666.
In English this week, we began to learn our shared text, based on the diary of Samuel Pepys and thought about how evidence of historical events was recorded in the past. We also began to recognise and use the past progressive tense in our writing. Next week, we will be completing assessments to track our progress and we will also be working in groups to perform well known poetry.
In Maths, we have been re-visiting telling the time to the nearest quarter of an hour. This remains an area that many children are finding tricky. Please could you continue to work on this key skill at home? The children need to be familiar and confident at telling the time on both analogue and digital clocks, starting with o'clock and building up to half past, quarter past and quarter to. Next week, we are completing assessments in Maths too, whilst also building on multiplication strategies.
We are lucky enough to have been offered a special one-off tennis session by TEAM Bath coaches on Wednesday morning and so this will be an additional PE session for all Year 2s. Please ensure PE kit is in school for this event.
PE will continue to take place outside on Tuesdays and possibly Thursdays. Please send your children with appropriate clothing for the inevitable cold weather, with jogging bottoms, jumpers and coats!
Don't forget to make use of Doodle Maths! There is a school expectation that children will try to spend at least 10 minutes on Doddle Maths a minimum of 3 times a week. It is a wonderful resource and we are already seeing an impact on learning within the classroom. If you do not have the necessary technology at home, let us know and we can arrange for your child to complete sessions within the school day. Many thanks.
Have a wonderful weekend.
