W/E 22nd November 2019:
It's been another busy week in Year One. We've been thinking of ways to stay safe on the road, because of road safety week. In the playground we've been practicing crossing the road, and we've used the knowledge that we've learned to create some wonderful road safety pictures.
After reading 'How to Catch a Star' we've come up with our own ideas for catching a star. There have been all kinds of inventive solutions, and we've written some brilliant instructions just in case anyone out there would like some tips for catching a star of their own!
Everyone has been working hard in our handwriting sessions, and the children are really coming out with some beautiful letter formation.
In Science this week we had an accidental spill, and so the children compared lots of different materials to predict which one would be best for absorbing the puddle. After making our predictions, the children carried out experiments on puddles of water to see if they were right.
In Maths we have been taking all the work we've done on part-whole models and used it to help us with subtraction. We've also been breaking the number lines out to tackle subtraction from a different direction.
Our fantastic rocket pictures were finished this week. They went up, fell down, and are now back up again, and really do look fantastic. The children are really pleased with them.
Enjoy your weekends whatever you do, and we'll see you on Monday.
All the best,
The Year One Team
